I've thought about landscapes. I've thought about seascapes. But tablescapes? Not so much.
I get it. There's a lot between a plastic placemats/paper napkins theme and going all out setting a table. With that in mind, if company's coming, I'll make some kind of an effort in that direction, maybe something original like flowers or a bowl of fruit. I'll use cloth napkins and a tablecloth, but nothing, repeat NOTHING, that involves ironing. You have to draw the line somewhere.
From then on, it's about the food, how it looks and tastes. But this is very far from tablescaping, where some people pull out all the stops and cover the table with fabulous china, candles, possibly flowers as well as fruit.
I was at a dinner party once where the table top was so crowded that the dinner plates barely fit, let alone glasses and silverware. The fabulously elaborate centerpiece was so high it was impossible to see the people on the other side of the table. In fact, it was impossible to see whether or not there even were people on the other side of the table.
Then again — it was all about the tablescape.
Thanks for tuning in.
